Professor Olov Olofsson
Olov Olofsson is a pianist and a composer. Since 1981, he has been teaching musical interpretation for singers at The Royal University College of Music in Stockholm, where he holds the position of Professor. He is an acclaimed teacher and gives master classes for singers and pianists, many of whom have achieved international recognition.
As a pianist, Olov is well known for his concert performances, and has also made numerous recordings for Swedish Radio. He can be heard on many CD recordings, notably ‘Songs of Ravel’, with mezzo-soprano Malena Ernman.
He is also an arranger and conductor and was commissioned by the Nobel Prize Committee, in 1999 to arrange and perform the music for the Nobel festivities.
As a composer Olov writes mostly for voice and his compositions include two cycles for solo voice and piano; ‘The Air-conditioned Nightmare’, text by Henry Miller and ‘Nine Walt Whitman poems’. In 1999 he composed the chamber opera ‘King Erik’ for two baritones , dancer, piano and renaissance ensemble. His last major work is an oratorio, ‘Seven Hundred Days’ for soloists, choir, organ and woodwind orchestra which given it’s première in Stockholm in 2004.
